New Coinbase Tools Target Institutional Investors
Popular Cryptocurrency exchange, Coinbase, is aiming to attract $10 billion of institutional investment in Cryptocurrency, with the launch of four tools aimed at this demographic.
Institutional investors tend to have unique concerns about the cryptocurrency market. By providing a solution to these worries, Coinbase could attract a huge new pool of people to invest in cryptocurrency.
Below, we summarize these four tools and how they’re aiming to make cryptocurrency more attractive to institutional investors.
Top U.S. cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase is taking aim at institutional investors with four new products.
The security of cryptocurrency remains a significant deal-breaker for many institutional investors.
If the bank storing their fiat currency is compromised, their savings are insured, but that is not the case with digital coins stored in a digital wallet. There is no way to recover lost or stolen funds. Coinbase Custody is looking to change that. Coinbase argues its exchange has demonstrated such strong levels of security that it’s the perfect company to launch a Cryptocurrency custodian service. It is inviting institutional investors to apply now, and will roll out the service gradually throughout 2018.
Coinbase Prime is a new cryptocurrency exchange, aimed exclusively at institutional investors. Explaining the motive behind this thinking, Coinbase vice-president and general manager Adam White explained: “The feedback we heard from institutional investors was ‘Your infrastructure doesn’t meet our expectations. We heard that loud and clear.” Coinbase Prime will have a different interface to the existing exchange, but members will retain access to the same pool of investment opportunities.
Coinbase Markets is electronic marketplace set to provide a new centralized pool of digital assets for institutional investors, plus there are plans to offer clearing and settlement services through this platform in the future.
Coinbase Institutional Coverage Group
Coinbase Institutional Coverage Group will provide customer service exclusively for institutional investors. It’ll also serve the needs of institutional clients by providing support with sales trading, research, and market operations among other things.
Announcing these four services, Adam White said: “We think this can unlock $10 billion of institutional investor money sitting on the sideline. We’re seeing a rapid increase in attention awareness and adoption in the cryptocurrency market.”
